JUST ASK JAI: How Did You Get Started On Your Fitness Journey?

start

Sooo, I’ve been getting lots of questions about my everything from relationships to parenting to my fitness journey. So I’ve decided to answer a few of them here on the blog so everyone can benefit from my answers. Look for the JUST ASK HER headline on the blog for more of these. This one comes from my Twitter Direct Messages.

JUST ASK HER:

Hey Jai: I’m morbidly obese and at the end of my rope. I know you are getting healthier. Can you tell me how you started the process?

WHAT SHE SAID:

Heyyy End Of My Rope:

Let me start out by saying that many people start their fitness journey because they hear or see inspiring stories like contestants from The Biggest Loser or someone on Discovery Health. But for me, the truth is that very little of my inspiration comes from external places. I’m just not built that way. I’m 95% dig deep and go after what you want!  But that is me, I encourage you to discover people or things that inspire you to find your personalized path to total wellness.

Now to answer your question: I suppose my short answer is that I started my fitness journey by working on my emotional wellness i.e. therapy and coaching. I begin by working with Dr. Michael Imani, and it was he who first educated me on the connection between my emotional wellness and physical fitness. Before Dr. Mike, I had been under the impression that they were totally unrelated issues. Basically, I had to fix a lot of internal shit before I could even tackle the obesity.

Note: The coaching component is complex, so I will dedicate another post to that one later.  But I will say that where I am today is a direct reflection of the coaching work I have done.  I haven’t found a magic bullet or sure-fire formula.  But here is what I’m doing right now to keep myself grounded.

My 4 prong approach to my fitness journey:

  1. Manage my emotional wellness
  2. Put JAI First
  3. Raise my commitment level
  4. Create a support team (#supportJAI)

Look for my next post where I go into details on my approach.  But for now, I hope this gives you a starting point.

Nakedly Yours,
Jai Stone
